Radial fingering in viscoelastic media, an experimental study
نویسندگان
چکیده
We report measurements of two dimensional radial fingering in viscoelastic concentrated suspensions (pastes) of colloidal particles, in small surface tension conditions. The displacement efficiency, the average finger width and the fractal dimension for growth have been measured in a broad range of paste viscosity and driving pressure. The growth process appears to be fractal in all the experimental conditions, with fractal exponents, DG, covering the whole range from 1.3 at very small tip velocity to 2.0 at very high tip velocity. The displacement efficiency, 03B4, defined as the volume fraction of paste displaced by water when water flows out of the paste, is almost zero at very low velocity, and seems to tend toward an asymptotic value close to 0.25 at high velocity, 03B4 is almost entirely dominated by the velocity dependence of the tip-splitting cascade. The average finger width has very little influence. Revue Phys. Appl. 22 (1987) 241-252 AVRIL 1987,

An experimental study on hydraulic behavior of free-surface radial flow in coarse-grained porous media
The equations of fluids in porous media are very useful in designing the rockfill and diversion dams, gabions, breakwaters and ground water reserves. Researches have been showed that the Forchheimer equation is not sufficient for the analysis of hydraulic behavior of free-surface radial flows; because, in these flows, in addition to the hydraulic gradient and velocity, the variable of radius is...
متن کاملCreep Strain and Stress Analysis in Laminated Composite Pres-sure Vessels
This study investigates the time-dependent long-term creep strain in a composite cylinder made of glass/vinylester with a unidirectional ply. The cylinder is subjected to an internal pressure and the boundary condition is free–free and acts as thermal insulation. The classical lamination theory (CLT) is used to derive the governing equations as a second-order equation to determine the radial, c...
متن کاملLinking drainage front morphology with gaseous diffusion in unsaturated porous media: a lattice Boltzmann study.
The effect of drainage front morphology on gaseous diffusion through partially saturated porous media is analyzed using the lattice Boltzmann method (LBM). Flow regimes for immiscible displacement in porous media have been characterized as stable displacement, capillary fingering, and viscous fingering. The dominance of a flow regime is associated with the relative magnitudes of gravity, viscou...
متن کاملAn Experimental Study on Evaluation of Factors Influencing the Viscosity and Viscoelastic Properties of Waxy Crude Oil
The influences of several operating factors on the viscosity of the Isfahan refinery waxy crude oil sample are studied through conducting some rheological shear rotational tests. The Taguchi design method is adopted to determine the impact of factors such as shear rate, temperature, cooling rate, wax content, and asphaltene content on the viscosity of the waxy crude oil. The results show that t...
متن کاملLongitudinal displacement in viscoelastic arteries: a novel fluid-structure interaction computational model, and experimental validation.
Recent in vivo studies, utilizing ultrasound contour and speckle tracking methods, have identified significant longitudinal displacements of the intima-media complex, and viscoelastic arterial wall properties over a cardiac cycle. Existing computational models that use thin structure approximations of arterial walls have so far been limited to models that capture only radial wall displacements....
